Poised for Success

andrew-caddell.jpg

Seventeen year old Andrew Caddell started out the 2006 racing season with a bang, taking the checkered flag in the Oregon Region SCCA Spec Miata race at Portland International Raceway this past Sunday, April 23. Andrew, who started in kart racing in 1998, stepped up to Spec Miata in 2005 and won the SCCA NW region championship.

Coached by his father, veteran racer Roger Caddell, Andy uses a variety of data acquisition tools to measure his performance and look for ways to improve. His Spec Miata uses an AiM Sports MXL Pro data logger and digital display, and a DaVid video system. See photos and details of the MXL installation on Roger's website. Additionally, you can download and analyze Andy's driving data.

Check out this video footage of Andy's final winning laps, recorded using the DaVid system. The screenshot below explains the DaVid screen layout, which is fully customizable.

Im Gonna Miss You Dad

I lost my dad today just short of his 80th birthday. Like all young men as they are growing up we often had our differences and I didnt always follow his advice. But his words of encouragement and wisdom must have stuck somewhere in the back of my mind because as I have grown older so many of the things he tried to teach me just became second nature to me. He taught me the importance of family and friends and without them you really have nothing. I have both and he was right about that. Even though he lived on the other side of the coutry we spoke usually every other day and I have our last conversation fresh in my mind and one of the things we talked about was this blog which he looked forward to reading to see what his son was up to. Well dad I hope you have your glasses with because this is for you.

I love you always and I am going to miss you so much.

Just another day on the job...

Contributed by Erik Nielsen
(Director of Marketing)

Monday was a fun day. Chad, Aaron and I went out to VIR's North Course to meet up with the group from Team Pro Motion. TPM is a motorcycle racers' club that sets up track events, a race series and other fun events for motorcycle racers of all abilities. TPM also runs a Parts Club with some great deals on gear and parts for members.

Check out the schedule of events, chock full of over 70 track events this season. Team Pro Motion also has a great group of instructors and coaches who offer training and advice to aspiring racers.

The atmosphere was fun, friendly and very laid back, though the raining weather early in the day dampened spirits for a little while. Then the sun was out by late morning and the track was dry soon after...

For those who may not know, MyChron Chad Brackens (seen at right pretending to work on TPM's Glen Goldman's Ducati) has a true passion for motorcycles, currently riding a Yamaha R6 600. Past bikes include another R6, a GSXR 1000 and a Honda CBR 600 F3. Maybe if we're lucky we'll see him on the track at VIR on the 28th for the next Team Pro-Motion event?
