Road America

I had the pleasure of supporting the Champ Car Rotax Kart Grand Nationals at Road America this past week. It was a very well run event despite all the rain and congestion in the pit area. Marshall Martin and the whole crew did a fabulous job despite all of this. The pre-finals on Friday were run in less than optimum conditions with a steady rain throughout the morning with mostly dry conditions by the time the last pre-final took to the track.

This event featured something that most kart races dont. It was run in conjuction with Champ Car, AMA SuperMoto, Barber Dodge and Mazda Miata Pro Cup races. The Rotaxians shared the paddock with the SuperMoto guys who ran their races on the same track as the karts with the addition of a couple of jumps and an off track dirt section which really threw a challenge at the riders. Maybe we need that kind of track for the karters, at least a jump or two! The paddock area was filled with the sounds of Champ Cars, Rotaxes and AMA SuperMoto thumpers throughout the event. It was a racers dream.

Throughout the weekend I ran into many old friends from California whom I havent seen in many years. Overall it was a great weekend! Congratulations to all the champions as well as everyone who gave it their best as well.
