PRI News and Notes
The 20th Annual PRI Show has come and gone. The show went very well for us as we unveiled some exciting new products for 2008. Top of the list is our new DaVid2 video system which features playback via a full color screen in high def or can be downloaded to your computer via a compact flash card. A new channel expansion and thermocouple hub were introduced which will expand the capibility of our MXL line of loggers. The Data key idea has been expanded to what will function as a memory key for the MXL line as well. This will give the user an added memory upgrade to 32MB and may also be used for endurance racing where each driver can carry his or her own key which is hot swappable during pit stops. This will allow engineers to analyze data prior to the next pit stop and effect changes then. A new very very small EVO4 will be added spring of 2008.
Check back for further updates and pictures soon. You can also check out a video from our booth below.

Hondata ECU Conection
The Hondata protocol is now out of beta and working great! You can now connect your MXL, MyChron3 XG Log, or DaVid system directly to your Hondata KPro ECU and receive up to 23 channels of data from the ECU. Having such an ECU connection also frees up analog inputs for other input types like; steering position, shock travel/velocities, additional temps, additional pressures, infrared tire temps, and more. The KPro connection requires an inline circuit between the ECU and AiM dash/logger. The connection is available now for $75 USD. --Update Nov. 29th, 2007 - Works with model PRB KPro.

Attention 4-Cycle Racers!

One cable, RPM and Power
A little known secret to the MyChron4 is it's ability to not only get a perfect RPM signal by connecting directly to a 4-cyle coil, but also to use excess power from the coil to completely power the gauge while the engine is running. This greatly increases the internal 9V battery life since the internal battery is only used for downloading or on screen data review while the engine is not running.
Straight to the Source for Perfect RPM Readings
The perfect RPM signal cannot be overlooked. Oval racers, in particular, know the importance of getting accurate low and high RPM readings. The difference in these two numbers, highlighted by the MyChron4, is critical in getting a good setup — there is no better indicator.
A Secret No More
Perfect RPM's and greatly extended battery life is no longer a secret, it's a $30 cable that plugs into the expansion port of your MyChron4.

MyChron4 Picture Manager Released
The MyChron4 Picture Manager Software has been released. Available for free download, the software allows you to upload your own images to your MyChron4 for display upon startup (instead of the "AiM" logo that comes up now). A Datakey is needed to complete the process; you can borrow a friend's if you don't have your own.
Now you can upload your team logo, photos of your best friend's mom, Danika Patrick or other "inspirational" images.
MyChron Chad says "The picture manager for the MyChron4 works great!"

Basic procedure
• Connect your MyChron4 to the PC with the Data Key.
• Switch your MyChron4 on and press the MENU button.
• Launch M4 Picture Manager Software
• Click on LOAD IMAGE button and select an image.
• Click on UPLOAD button to upload the image chosen on your MyChron4.
Allowed formats and logo modification
M4 Picture Manager Software manages the most common image file types, such as Bitmap (*.bmp), GIF (*.gif) and JPEG (*.jpg). M4 Picture Manager automatically modifies the image you have chosen to get a two-color format fitting the dimensions of MyChron4 display (160 X 90 pixel). The original one is shown in grayscale in the “Original Picture” window, while a preview of the image as you’ll see it on your logger is visualized in the “Output” window.
With M4 Picture Manager you can easily play with your image to get the best graphic results. You can:
• Modify the image brightness with the “Black Treshold” cursor;
• Rotate the image selecting the “Flip Vertical” or “Flip Horizontal” option;
• Get the negative of your image selecting the “Reverse” option.
Additional functions
To save the image you have chosen just click on the “Save as…” button and choose a file name. The image is saved as a two-colour bitmap file (160 X 90 pixel). To reset the original AIM default logo just press the “Erase” button.

MyChron4 Questions Answered
How do I change the display color from green to orange? You can't. There are 2 different models of MyChron4, one with a green backlight and another with an amber/orange backlight. If you have a strong preference, be sure to check before you buy. Perhaps in the future a multicolor display will be possible.
How do I upload my team logo to the MyChron4? This feature is not yet enabled, look for a future software release. Keep up to date with software releases by checking the MyChron4 Updates and Downloads page. You'll need the Data Key at that time.
When is the E-box expected? It looks like there will be 2 different e-boxes, the first one coming in late July. The first one will deliver speed, track mapping, and 2 temps, as well as more battery power. The larger one, just announced, will have more channels. See this post below for a glimpse.

E-Box Arrives!

I received the first E-Box for testing today and its way too cool. I simply used my E-Key and updated the firmware in my M4, plugged in the E-Box and then used in display menu to set up my speed channel, temperature alarms and calibrate the lateral accelerometer using a menu item. No more hooking up a cable to zero the lateral G sensor. How cool is that?
Hopefully we will be able to find someone who would like to test the M4/E at the Stars of Karting race this upcoming weekend at Lowes Motor Speedway. If you're interested shoot me an email at mc@aimsports.com and we will see what happens.

AiM Sports Wideband Lambda Controller
It looks like we are close to shipping our Lambda Control Unit, something we have been excited about since we saw the first prototypes last fall. This unit utilizes a Bosch sensor to monitor air/fuel ratios in your engine, also known as lambda. The unit is intended mainly for automotive use as an expansion to our MXL Pista and MXL Pro data loggers, though other uses including standalone seem possible. Pricing and availabililty are not yet set. Look for more information soon!

MXL Display for AEM Engine Management Systems Getting Some Attention
Recently we announced that our MXL digital displays and data loggers now supported AEM's programmable engine management systems. This means that if you're using an AEM system to control your car's performance, you can easily plug in an MXL system and add a stunning display and powerful data logger.
Modified Magazine has listed the MXL under "Hot Products". SEMA has listed the MXL and AEM integration as a hot product. If you're tuning a performance car, involved with import tuning, the AEM/MXL combo is one of the best value for performance packages you can get.
As we posted earlier, the AMS Motorsports team Lancer EVO 8 ran the MXL/AEM combo in the One Lap of America, finishing 3rd overall.

New RPM Clip for Kart Racers
A reminder to kart racers that we have a new style RPM clip that replaces the previous metal clip. These clips were originally introduced at Kartfest in January.
Use the new RPM clip to keep your tach sensor wire firmly wrapped around your spark plug wire.
To install the new clip, first cut off the old metal clip. Snap the new clip to the plug wire. Run the RPM lead through one hole, loop it around the plug wire a few turns, pull it snug, then run the lead back through other hole.
A properly installed RPM clip is shown below:

Get the new clips from your local dealer or contact us.

Cool, Sweet, Awesome, Wow
In early testing with the powerful new MyChron4 all I can say is wow. Besides having the best display you could hope for, the on screen review is so awesome! Excuse my unfettered excitement but this thing is going to be so good that I wish I raced! Now that would be a sight.

Powerful Stuff
I can hardly contain my excitement with regard to the new MyChron4. This gauge and some of the technology associated with is a true quantum leap in data acquisition. It is hard to restrain myself from jumping up and down when I think about the features and analysis options for the racer and their crew. Yesterday I spoke with Michael Jaynes who has been in Italy for the past week finalizing all the firmware functions which we have been putting together for quite some time in preparation for making this the most powerful gauge we have ever produced. I mean this thing is going to be so good! When you add in the expansion capabilities coupled with the power of on screen analysis and the eKey look out! It has taken many people who arent afraid of change along with all of our customers who use our products and offer feedback and suggestions to move this product from an idea to the race track. To all of you I offer a sincere thank you! You can take a peek at many of the features by clicking on the link below.

Kartfest
Well it's down to the two week countdown before we leave for KartFest. We exhibit at quite a few shows in the off season, the reason I call it the off season is that I get a couple of weekends off during that time period. I love KartFest for many reason but most of all we get to see all of our customers and dealers in a slower more relaxed environment. Yeah right! KartFest is crazy and packed full of people but its the best.
We are going to have a new addition to our product line and you are going to have a hand in deciding its final design. For the best suggestion on improving this new product we will be giving one away to the winner. Heck if we get more than one great idea we will probably give a few away. Look for more info here in the next few days.

New improved RPM clip
In an effort to cut down on the number of times Chad or myself get paged to someones pit who is complaining of incorrect RPMs only to find a broken wire at the clip junction we have produced a new RPM clip. This new clip will eliminate the problem of broken wires at the clip junction, erratic RPM on the Animal engines due to the metal clip coming in contact with the shrouding. Installed properly it will also ensure a more consistent RPM especially in the very important low corner RPM reading.
